personality
Saul stands at about 5'11" with dark brown hair and dark blue eyes. In his own canon, he is usually seen in reasonable clothing that protect from the elements of the sea. While on his ship, he wore a vest that would not impede his movements - which needed to be quick for battles. On land, he wears a large pale overcoat. In Firefly-verse, he will usually be seen in typical Alliance garb.

abilities
WEATHER MANIPULATION: Saul has a limited control over the weather that develops from causing electrons in the air to vibrate together to build up an energy that causes a storm to form. He can also dispel it with the wave of his hand.
history
Saul Miles was born and raised at sea. He was a deck hand aboard a pirate vessel, and learned quick that in this sort of outlet, you needed to get tough to survive. At a younger age, he was relentlessly tormented, and spent the majority of his life wondering 'why me' until he learned when he was older that his father, the Captain, had pulled strings in order to have he and his mother on board.

His mother died when he was in his late teens due to a storm, and he got harder and colder after that. He rose up through the ranks of the ship swiftly and eventually mutinied against his own father whom he had always resented a bit for making his childhood a living hell. He took over the ship, and they became a terror of the seas.

Weather seemed to always move in his favour, though Saul wasn't certain why until his late 20s when his anger and rage seemed to cause storms. Rather than being frightened of his abilities, he embraced them. Having a Hidden Power was rare in his world, and he was pleased to have been blessed with one. His crew was less thrilled about the idea, and after a particularly dangerous storm that the ship almost didn't survive, Saul was mutinied and left on land to live out the rest of his life.

Having never really been on land, Saul felt out of place. He started off in ways that he was used to, pillaging and the like, but soon started to see the faces of the individuals he was stealing from, and how his thievery was effecting them. He began to develop morals, realizing how foolish it was to continue on like that, and decided that on land, he would struggle to be a better person than the man that he had become on sea. He knew his mother would want that for him.

After a time, he ran into a young girl who announced that her name was Lizzy Peters, and that she was hungry and wanted the sandwich that he was eating. He refused, of course, having worked hard for that meal and hungry himself - also because he didn't like her attitude. She began to will him, and he continued to struggle against it, but eventually she used so much power to will him to 'DO AS SHE SAID' that he was overwhelmed. He practically became her slave after that.

The spell itself was powerful enough to last for months on end, and Lizzy could always tell when it was waning in spite of efforts Saul put forward to manipulate her. After a time, though, Saul started to become uncertain what actions were prompted by the spell and what actions were prompted by his own attraction to the young girl.

They would part ways after a few years when Lizzy developed her own morals, but Saul always thought that he'd have a small soft spot where the girl was concerned.

Saul is a strong individual who learned quickly that you had to be brave and a fighter in order to get what you wanted in your world. He learned that strength and stamina meant nothing if you didn't have the confidence in your abilities to back it up. He also hated his father, which pushed him to be the very best he could be, moving up in his ranks and controlling a pirate ship which was feared his world over. That said, his mother taught him good morals, like not to steal from those who could not afford to be stolen from, and to always be aware that the world was a giant balancing board - you could take whatever you wanted, but if you gave nothing back you'd tumble into the sea. He loved his mother.

Under Lizzy's control, Saul loses a lot of his fighting nature because Lizzy proves to be an insurmountable obstacle for him. When she is in danger, though, it returns in full force.

Miranda wasn't the first, last, or only cover-up the Alliance was involved in ...

In game, Saul Miles was born and raised on the planet Lilac. His parents were fairly well off in terms of their location on the planet, and he wanted for very little if only because he knew how lucky it was to know rain. His early years were a struggle for him with the war of the Independants. People lived in constant fear of news, and his father fought in many battles for territory. When he was 9 or 10, the Alliance put their striking blow into Serenity Valley, and the war came to a close. Saul always admired the stability the Alliance offered, and when he came of age, he signed up to be a soldier.

He met Eliza Collins while working for the Alliance, and the two of them fell in love. They returned to his home planet to be married so that his parents would not be forced to endure space travel and hers had passed on. Later on, some of the wealthy individuals of Lilac began paying for a private security firm to protect them from reavers, and in order to achieve more stability, Saul gave up his space duties to be closer to home. In his late 20s, his home was attacked by reavers, and though he and his fellow soldiers did all they could, they were unable to save everyone in the town, and his wife Eliza was killed. One of his comrades put a mercy bullet in her as he killed the reavers tormenting her. He's always wondered whether the mercy bullet was necessary or if she'd still be alive without it.

He lost faith in his organization after that, though he was still committed to his job as his daughter. When she was old enough, he left Lilac entirely and took her with him on a patrol ship in space. It was shortly after that the public learned of the Miranda incident, shaking Saul to his core and causing him to do a 180 in terms of his allegiances. He still works for the Alliance, of course, and by all pretenses remains the committed employee he has always been. Though now he has contacts in the Independents to whom he secretly feeds useful information. It is his way of paying penance for supporting the men and women who killed his wife.
